Tips: Why 400Hz is used?
400 Hz (Hertz) is actually used in airplanes since the transformers and power supplies are smaller and more efficient at this higher frequency but this is good only for airplanes power distribution. Even in many control systems (carrier control) systems, the frequency used is 400Hz. This was convenient mainly because of the low interference of the supply frequency (50 or 60 Hz) when the control signals themselves may be of much lower frequency like in servo systems. Component size becomes smaller to high frequencies, but maintaining higher power level becomes more difficult.
