Tips: Using VFD to improve motor efficiency
The induction motor system will be more efficient on a variable frequency drive (VFD) than a soft starter. If you have a 6-pulse VFD the inefficient motor will look like 98.5% efficient, on an 18-pulse VFD it will look like 96.5% efficient. The DC bus of the VFD can supply the VARs to the load making it look all the more efficient. VFDs are great for making poor power factor motors look better but really do not make sense if you just run at 100% speed due to you will have the conversion losses.
