Tips: Why does the aircraft use 400Hz frequency converter?
The aircraft chose 400Hz instead of the traditional 50Hz/60Hz because it needed to support heavier units. The 400Hz generator is lighter, which can save fuel and make the fuselage lighter. If the frequency of the system is high, the copper and steel materials of the generator and transformer will be less. Correspondingly, it is light in weight and low in cost. The disadvantages are the increase of inductive reactance, the decrease of capacitive reactance, the increase of loss and the decrease of transmission efficiency. On the contrary, low frequency will increase the material consumption, weight and cost of electrical equipment.

Therefore, in order to reduce the volume and weight, aviation generators are required to use high frequency. The transmission line on the plane is not too long, the loss is not the main contradiction. That is to say, 400Hz frequency converter is the best choice.
