Tips: Benefits of Variable Frequency Drive over Star/Delta starting
On variable torque loads, power has a squared/cubed relationship to speed, so running the load at 60% speed requires between 21% and 36% of the power to run at 100% speed. On constant torque loads, power is directly proportional to speed, so 50% speed only requires 50% power. There are significant energy savings to be realized. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) also offer a soft start delivering 150 - 200% FLT at 0 to full speed with excellent current control so there are no hard start inrush current starts, particularly needed on weak power systems. Star/Delta starting is a reduced voltage method, unfortunately this also reduces torque in a squared relationship and therefore still allows 300 - 600% FL current, with resultant system voltage dips if network regulation is poor. No reduced voltage start method can compare with a VFD which maintains maximum motor air gap flux in a constant ratio of V/Hz, hence low current, high torque. Even soft starters (also reduced voltage method) are inferior if high dynamic torque control is needed.

Temperature control is great!
I've had this 300 hp VFD for 6 months now and it has performed very well on our heavy duty machining equipment. It is very stable in both low and high speed operation. Temperature control is also very good, even in a high temperature environment there is no overheating problem.
