Tips: Choose between Variable Frequency Drive and Soft Starter
I would like to say that variable frequency drives (VFD) are not always the best way of saving energy. If the induction motor is running at full speed it is sometime more efficient to use a soft starter or fixed speed motor controller. Of course if the application can be slowed down then VFD is a very good solution.
If the load is required to run at full speed all the time then using a VFD is less efficient and in fact will introduce losses that a soft starter would not. We approach the market that there are different products for different jobs, sometimes VFDs are the best solution and sometimes soft starters are, it all depends on what the client wants to achieve.
